Repairing, restoring and cleaning armor
So that you can display it for a long time until your child grows up fine...
Many things can happen over the years. In the unlikely event that your work becomes damaged, please rest assured. Issui Kobo can help you to keep your precious child's armor beautiful and on display for many years to come.
This time we will introduce some examples of armor repairs that have been handled in our workshop in the past.
The helmet has copper ornaments plated with white silver, but the silver has oxidized overall, causing discoloration.
In order to restore it to its original beautiful silver-white color, the piece is completely disassembled and the metal fittings are "washed."
Prepare the appropriate tools for disassembling this helmet.
First, untie the tassels. Next, remove the shikoro from the helmet bowl.
We take great care in disassembling each component so as not to damage them. We use different tools depending on the characteristics of the material and work carefully.
The rivets and fastenings were newly made.
The removed decorative metal fittings are carefully polished and then re-plated.
We will ask a professional craftsman with whom we have a long-standing relationship to do the work.
It was beautifully done. Thank you.
It is actually very difficult to reassemble something that has been disassembled. Since all the materials are made by hand, it will not look beautiful if they are not put back in the exact same position. The positions of fastening holes and other parts are slightly different from time to time, so even if the parts are similar, there are many cases where they only fit in one place. In preparation for such cases, we make arrangements to mark the location when disassembling.
It's finally time to assemble.
All of the parts fit back into place and the helmet was restored to its original beauty.
Heianju Issui's armor and helmets are authentic decorative armor, carefully handmade down to the smallest detail using materials carefully selected by the skilled artisan.
Therefore, all parts can be removed just like the real thing, making it possible to repair even pieces that have been around for many years.
*The two suits of armor shown in the first image are works owned by our workshop. The armor on the left was made in our workshop 20 years ago, and the armor on the right was made 38 years ago.
We are confident that after Issui's armor and helmets have served their purpose as festival decorations over the years, filled with your countless memories, they will take on a dignified appearance as authentic artistic armor, assembled from carefully selected materials and with skilled techniques, and will become a treasured item for your children for years to come.
